Bon Echo

The plan today was to hire a canoe and paddle over to the the Mazinaw Rock to see the famous pictographs. These are hundreds of rock paintings made just above the waterline. At the boat hire hut we were advised that the wind was too strong, and increasing, to make a trip to the paintings advisable.

So near, but so far. I felt very disappointed, I had really wanted to see these up close.

So we ended up having a rather relaxed day, looking round the small museum here, swimming in the lake. This is supposed to be one of the deepest lakesin Ontario, but the sandy bottom seemed to extend out for ages and I simply couldn't get out of my depth. The water was a lovely temperature.

The chipmunks here are very friendly, and very interested in the peanuts I was eating.

This one would stuff unshelled nuts into its cheek pouches, grab another between its teeth, and scurry off to hide them for the long winter ahead.

Distant lightening in the sky tonight, and we had to go in due to rain. Thunderstorms forecast for tomorrow
