4.30 wake up today, and again manage to drift back for another hour’s sleep. Write up the previous day's blog, have a coffee, shower, shave and get ready for a new day.
Again over to Mike's for breakfast. It's noticeably cooler today, still warm without being oppressive.
A picture showing some of the well maintained gardens in this residential area. Everything is very green and lush, a consequence of the abundance of fresh water in this regionVera concocts bacon and scrambled eggs today. Little headway is being made with the fridge contents. Mike goes shopping and we take the opportunity to update Mike's laptop, setting him up with a supported internet browser, an email account, and a new facebook account
After lunch we all go out to Beamesville for a visit to a winery (aka a vineyard) to stock up on wine for our RV trip in 10 days time.
And so we find ourselves in the charming environs of the Angel's Gate Winery. It has a huge wooden door, closed, reminiscent of the giant's castle in Jack and the beanstalk. We lift the latch and walk in.We ask about wine tasting. This is $15 for three 1oz samples refundable against purchases of $50 or more. Not much of a challenge, so we go for 2 x 3 tastings.
There are two methode champenoise offerings, one where the wine is 'spurged' to remove the yeast from the bottle and one unspurged. The yeasty wine, which is a new concept for me, is entirely different from the other: much more complex in flavour and is definitely going in our basket. Of the two still whites we try, the Sauvignon Blanc is the clear winner. As it was in the all-of-Canada wine tastings where it had picked up a gold medal. Of the reds on offer, the pricey bottle out performed the cheaper blend, but after a detailed discussion with our host I opted for an untasted Cabernet Merlot and will report later on how this works out. I know how to keep my readers in suspense.View from the vineyard, Toronto seems to be floating above the water, like an etherial cityVera has been raving about the world famous Stoney Creek ice cream parlour. This has moved from its old location to a new premises on the beachfront at Confederation Park. So we call in on our way home, buy ice cream and wander along the promenade. It's difficult to believe this is a lake rather than the sea. The water disappears into the horizon, all that is lacking is the smell of salt.
I go for a paddle, the water soon becomes deep but is pleasantly warmBack to Mike's for our tea, after which Vera gives her Dad a social media masterclass. Although I'm more tech-knowledgable, and can get things set up and working, Vera is better than I could ever be in explaining to someone how to actually use the applications. Together we make a great team
